Dr ASM Ziaul (Zia) Hoque

MBBS, AMC, Diploma of Child Health

I arrived in Australia in 2005 with my family. After clearing the necessary exams, I started work in 2008 with the Hunter New England Health Service and worked in many hospitals and community health clinics across the region including Newcastle, Tamworth, Armidale, Maitland, and Morisset. Other than Emergency Departments and General Medicine, I have worked predominantly in mental health or drug and alcohol services and am comfortable relating to patients dealing with such problems. I have an excellent understanding of the various social, economic and cultural aspects that need to be considered for holistic and satisfactory patient care. I also have considerable experience with patients from an Aboriginal background. Since 2013 I have been working as a General Practitioner in Sydney providing after-hours care to patients and later on also in a couple of practices in the Western Suburbs of Blacktown and Kellyville. In 2016 I completed the Diploma in Child Health from The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

Before coming to Australia, I have experience working in Family Medicine in my country of origin Bangladesh. Also, I have worked with the public health department there in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), and Save the Children– USA. Our goals were to prevent the spread of HIV and tuberculosis and to promote the health and early development of children.

Since coming to Australia, I have come to enjoy the Australian way of life and people here who have always been friendly and enjoyable to work and be with and have made many friends. I have come to deeply respect the concept of “mateship” and have been rewarded many times from total strangers sharing experiences with me and providing unconditional help. I was proud to receive my Australian citizenship in 2009.
